SAM RAIMI'S
Within the Woods
RIP TAPERT PRESENTS
EXT. RURAL AREA-DAY
The EVIL FORCE is moving slowly through the swamp.
BRUCE CAMPBELL
From the swamp is makes its way ever so quietly into the nearby forest, moving easily through the thick vines and matted branches.
ELLEN SANDWEISS IN
From the ghastly forest the Evil Force moves up the hill and into an old dilapidated BARN.  It scouts out the barn to find no one.  Out of the barn it continues up the hill to it comes to a nice warm FARMHOUSE, where it can just smell the humans inside.
WITHIN THE WOODS
CUT TO:
INT. FARMHOUSE-DAY
There is a fly buzzing happily on a hot dog, suddenly it is WRAPPED UP in a plastic bag.  ELLEN names the items as she places them in the picnic basket.

ELLEN
Well, let's see if we got everything: A hot-dog, napkins, oooh wine?
BRUCE
Well, ya know.
ELLEN
Coke, cookies, apples... three sandwiches?  You pig!
BRUCE
Thank you, I love you too, dear.
ELLEN
Oh what's this?
Ellen picks up a few stone.
ELLEN
Looks like skipping stones.
BRUCE
(all knowing)
Oh, those are arrowheads; I found those right outside the front door.

BRUCE takes the basket from her and heads into the living room, where SCOTTY and SHELLY are playing Monopoly.

BRUCE
You know this whole area used to be Indian Territory?
ELLEN
C'mon to the picnic, Shelly.  We might as well live like kings as long as we're up here.
SHELLY
Awe, these Indians don't go on picnics.
ELLEN
Why not?
SCOTTY
(to the girls)
Would you be quiet! I got her just where I want her: 7 spaces in front of boardwalk.

Ellen and Bruce head out the door.

ELLEN
(to Shelly)
Okay, but you're missing out on a good time!

EXT. FARMHOUSE-DAY

BRUCE
C'mon
ELLEN
Well, we come out here to have fun, and all she wants to do is play Monopoly!
BRUCE
Don't worry about it.

The two make their way down hill hand in hand as the PORCH SWING SLAMS maniacally into the side of the house over and over and over again.

CUT TO:
INT. FOREST-DAY
Ellen and Bruce playfully stroll through the forest.
BRUCE
Hey, I'm gonna teach you something interesting.

He takes out some of the ARROWHEADS from before.
BRUCE
See this one?
ELLEN
Yeah
BRUCE
This is part of a hunting arrow.

He gets out another one.

BRUCE
And this used to fit on a larger spear for hunting bigger game, like ya know, deer.
ELLEN
How come you know so much about Indians?
BRUCE
I'm and old boy scout.

He hastily remembers his training and hold up 3 fingers in the scout salute.

BRUCE
(cheesy accent)
It's my duty to know, besides, I grew up in this area.  Ya know, it's all I ever heard was Indian legends and stories.  Ya know, the whole bit.

They begin to walk down the path towards the campsite.

BRUCE
You want to know something interesting?
ELLEN
(sarcastic)
For a change you mean?
BRUCE
You know this place we're staying?  Used to be part of an old Indian burial ground, very sacred and old.
ELLEN
Oooh, scary, is it cursed or something?
BRUCE
Yeah, as a matter of fact it is.
ELLEN
You serious?
BRUCE
(all-knowing)
Yeah.  Don't worry about it, you're only cursed by the evil spirits if you violate the graves of the dead.  We're just gonna be eatin' hot-dogs. Besides, I'm there to protect you.
ELLEN
You?
BRUCE
Yeah.
ELLEN
You're going to protect me?
BRUCE
Yeah.
ELLEN
Hahahahahahaha!

She pinches his cheek and walks off.

BRUCE
Hey!

CUT TO:
EXT. FOREST-DAY

Ellen takes out the blanket.

BRUCE
I'm gonna build a fire for the hot dogs, why don't you see if you can find some wood?
ELLEN
Okay

Ellen unfolds the blanket and lays it on the ground; it covers the camera in the process.  She walks off into the forest in search of wood.  Bruce heads off in the other direction and begins to DIG A PIT in which to make a fire.  As he digs, he begins to uncover strange objects, bowls, jewelry, weapons, and a DAGGER.

BRUCE
Jeez, this must be 200 years old.

Ellen comes back and throws down the wood she found by the blanket.

ELLEN
Here's your firewood that's as far as I go.
BRUCE
Ellen, look at this.

He holds up the dagger.

ELLEN
What is it?
BRUCE
It's an old Indian dagger, and it's in perfect shape.

He walks over and lies down beside her, he hands her the knife.

BRUCE
Oh, my.
ELLEN
What's it doing here?

She hands back the knife.

BRUCE
Well, as far as I know, when the medicine man of a tribe died, they used to bury one of his possessions with him, so he would have it in his next life.
ELLEN
Oh, so you mean we're having a picnic over somebody's dead body?
BRUCE
Yeah, but all that's left now is TINGA the Indian spirit of the woods who watches over and protects the medicine man's grave for all eternity.

He takes the dagger and sticks it into the ground as Ellen wraps her arms around him lovingly.

ELLEN
Oh, hold me I'm scared.

Off in the distance, a WALL OF FIRE springs forth from the violated grave.
